Australia's Department of Immigration has announced a significant reduction in the number of approved doctors in the UK who are permitted to carry out medical examinations for the purpose of migration.
We have been advised that the Department of Immigration made the reduction following a review that took into account the following considerations:
* Capacity or potential capacity for operation as a combined (both X-ray and medical) clinic
* Digital capacity and eHealth2 compatibility
* Geographical and client accessibility considerations (with more than 95% of clients being within 90 miles of a clinic under the proposed new network - which is less than two hours travel)
* Ability to manage client volume (offering appointments within a reasonable timeframe) and absorb additional volume
* Client service
* Clinic facilities, and
* Integrity issues.
At first sight we question whether the review has achieved the desired end, particularly the geographical spread: we believe that many visa applicants are now looking at travel times significantly in excess of 2 hours.
Go Matilda has made representations to the Department of Immigration and we sincerely hope that greater efforts are made to consider the reasonable expectations of visa applicants.
The list of approved panel doctors in the UK is available at the weblink below.
