The Australian Taxation Office is to obtain from the Department of Immigration the names and addresses of all temporary visaholders who were granted their visas in the year to the 30th of June, 2009 in an effort to ensure that such visaholders are complying with their tax obligations.
Visa subclasses affected are numbers 417, 457, 462, 570, 571, 572, 573, 574, 575, 576, and 580.
Records will be electronically matched and analysed with Australian Tax Office data, " ... to identify potential refund fraud and other non compliance with lodgment and payment obligations under taxation law."
Records relating to approximately 600,000 individuals who applied for and were granted visas under the above subclasses will be matched.
This matching will be carried out in the third quarter of the 2010 year.
The Federal Government Gazette Notice which discusses this data matching exercise is available at the weblink below.
Go Matilda Accounting and Tax has many years of experience assisting individuals with their taxation affairs. The interaction of that knowledge with an understanding of the many Australian visa subclasses enables us to give advice that is particularly relevant to those who have migrated to Australia, or who are living and working in Australia on a temporary basis.
Please contact us for a free initial discussion about your tax affairs and how we might help, after which we can send a no obligation fixed fee proposal to you.
