Increased Rollover Period for Temporary Retirement Visa Holders

Author: Alan Collett
Date: Monday, November 07, 2005

It has been announced today that holders of temporary Retirement visas (subclass number 410) are to be able to rollover their Retirement visa for four years, rather than the two years that applies presently.

Current Retirement visa holders who successfully apply to rollover their visa on or after 1 December 2005 will be provided with a further four year stay in Australia.

It is estimated that 5,000 retirees living in Australia will benefit from this change.

Immigration Minister Senator Vanstone said today, "Many overseas retirees have approached me with concerns about the uncertainties of a shorter two-year rollover visa. Increasing the visa period to four years helps ease these concerns."

"I will keep looking at ways to support overseas retirees enjoy an active and fulfilling life in Australia that does not impact Australia’s health and welfare budgets," the Minister said.
